Am I eligible for a tax refund?
You are eligible for a refund if you fit the following criteria:
- You were not a U.S. Resident at the time of your winnings
- Your earnings were won within the past three years
- You were issued a U.S. IRS Form 1042-S, a Win Slip, from the Casino or Gaming Facility
at the time of your winnings You have appropriate government issued identity documentation
How much time after I’ve won do I have to obtain a refund on my
winnings?
The IRS will accept applications for tax refunds for up to three years after you have
won.
I lost my Win Slip. How can I go about receiving a Tax Refund without
it?
U.S. Tax Recovery can obtain a copy of your win slip for you. We can contact the Casino
or Gaming Facility where the slip was issued and recover the form so that we can process
the file and recover your tax refund, at no extra cost.
How long will it take for me to get my money?
Typically 12 to 18 weeks is required for the processing of your Tax Refund. Up to 8 weeks
is required to obtain an ITIN number from the IRS and up to 8 weeks is required to obtain
your cheque after the number is assigned. If you already have an ITIN number, your waiting
time can be significantly reduced.
Do I have to pay an upfront fee to U.S. Tax Recovery?
Not at all! Once you receive your tax refund from the IRS, notify U.S. Tax Recovery and
will be send you an invoice for our services. There are no fees to be paid before your money
is returned to you. We don’t get paid until you do.
Does this refund apply to winnings from Casinos only?
U.S. Tax Recovery will assist you in recovering your winnings from a variety of different
gaming venues including casinos, gaming facilities, horse and dog wagering, bingo, lotteries,
tournaments and game shows. If you’ve won money in the United States and are a Non-Resident,
it is worth contacting U.S. Tax Recovery to see if you are eligible for a refund.
